Brand Nubian's debut album "One for All" released at the end of 1990. The "Slow Down" single got out in 1991.

The song sampling the 1989 hit single "What I Am" by Edie Brickell & New Bohemians, "Let's Take It to the Stage" by Funkadelic (George Clinto and Bootsy Collins), "Kool It" A.K.A "Here Come the Fuzz" by Kool and the Gang.

The single got to #3 on the Billboard "Hot Rap Singles" chart and #63 at the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
